I grew up in what many visitors have called a “Garden of Eden” here on earth and this experience has profoundly affected me as an artist and as a human being. Foxfire Botanical Gardens (www.foxfiregardens.com) is a Japanese Botanical Garden started by my family some 20 years ago that is located in Northern Wisconsin. There is an unexplained power in Foxfire that instantly draws and connects people from all walks of life who find meaning and purpose from the mysterious pulse, the heart beat of the gardens.
Thomas Moore once wrote that “The soul cannot thrive in the absence of a garden,” and I can truthfully say that the essence of who I am and the internal peace and tranquility I carry with me is the result of growing up in, and continuing to visit this remarkable place. In these multi-media pieces I am hoping to bring a bit of this sacred place to those who have never passed her gates.
